Ellen brings her experience of working with food to the world of graphic art. With a fascination for systems her work explores the graphics of our palate.
Going beyond the mere creation of new dishes Ellen has managed to create a colour–taste–system and made it possible to chart her very own graphical language of taste.
Ellen takes her formal training in graphic design and cross feeds it with her passion of being a chef. Out of this she creates a unique range of food–art–work that express both a sensation of our contemporary approach towards eating as well as a grooving beat of what food has come mean for the contemporary consumer.
With her sushi style pancakes she is currently working on an approach that can easily be become the next experience in food retail fusing an Asia style approach to a ready-to-eat experience.
In her Colour Taste System Ellen translates the four colour process system of print into a fourfold grid of taste sensations. Each colour now comes to express one of the senses: cyan being salty, magenta expressing things sweet, yellow being sour and a deep black for bitterness.
By appointment Ellen creates a customised food experience: each guest finds a unique dish based on their own personal colour chart and created especially for them. Ellen works closely with her clients to create a one-off colour food dinner.
Ellen is now discovering new places for her work to go: with her Custard Tart Opera taste takes on a new dimension when it is simultaneously expressed in image as well as in sound.
Just listen to those taste buds hum.
